What to do Before Arriving at Camp (REQUIRED)

  • 5-day Daily Symptom Monitoring
    • During the 5-day period leading up to camp, all staff and campers will need to monitor and document any of the following symptoms:
      • Fever (above 100.4)
      • Cough
      • Shortness of Breath
      • Body Aches
      • Fatigue
      • Nausea/Vomiting
      • Diarrhea
      • viii.Chills
      • Sore Throat
      • Change in Taste or Smell
      • Change in Appetite
    • If any one of these symptoms occurs, the camper or staff member may come to camp after the symptom has been remitted for 48 hours if they have a negative Covid-19 test from the same time frame.
  • Contact History
      • Any camper or staff member who has experienced close contact with someone exposed to or infected with Covid-19 in the 14 days leading up to camp should not report to camp until the CDC time frame requirements for quarantine have been met.
        • Per the CDC, quarantine with a close contact can end AFTER day 10 without testing and IF no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring during those 10 days.
        • Per the CDC, quarantine can end AFTER day 7 IF the person in quarantine tests negative AND IF no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring during those 7 days.
        • If at any time someone in quarantine as a close contact develops symptoms of Covid-19, they should immediately isolate and get tested (even if they previously had a negative test during this quarantine). 

What to Expect While at Camp

  • Masks
    • Masks will not be required during camp indoors or outdoors. However, if you wish to wear a mask at any time, we will have them available for you. 
  • Cleaning and Disinfection
      • Bathrooms will be disinfected daily.
      • Shared objects will be disinfected following use (athletic supplies, games, craft supplies).
      • All cabins will be disinfected prior to campers’ and staffs’ arrival to camp
      • All water jugs, bathrooms and entrances to the food line will have hand sanitizer stations available near them. 
  •  
  • Handwashing
    • Campers will be encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water before each meal and after using the bathroom facilities in the mess hall and cabins.
  • Meals
    •  We have outdoor seating available for those who wish to eat outside and will have plenty of tables and chairs set up inside so campers and staff can spread out safely.
  • Visitors
    • Nonessential visitors will not be permitted to come to camp during a session. Parents and any other individuals should not come to camp during the camp session without express authorization from the Camp Directors or Camp Nurse.

Response to Symptomatic Persons While at Camp

  • If an individual at camp exhibits any of the following symptoms, they should report to the camp nurse and may be isolated away from others, if necessary: 
    • Fever (above 100.4)
    • Cough
    • Shortness of Breath
    • Body Aches
    • Fatigue
    • Nausea/Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Chills
    • Sore Throat
    • Change in Taste or Smell
    • Change in Appetite
  • If the camp nurse deems it necessary for the individual to be removed from camp, the nurse will:
    • Notify the campers’ parents.
    • Send the individual home or isolate the camper until picked up by a parent/guardian/authorized individual.
    • Notify the Camp Directors.
  • If a camper or staff member displays symptoms of Covid-19 while at camp and upon a valid Covid-19 test that is found to be positive, all the other campers and staff in the same cabin will be identified as close contacts.
    • All campers’ parents from that cabin will be contacted and asked to pick up their campers as soon as possible to begin quarantine at home.
    • The entire cabin (including staff) will remain isolated from all the other people at camp until all campers have been picked up from that cabin.
      • They will continue to reside in their cabin, but every effort will be made to maintain 6 feet of distance between them until departure.
      • The counselor will continue to supervise the cabin until all campers have left the campground, making every effort to maintain 6 feet of distance from others at all times.
      • Masks will be worn in the cabins unless eating or sleeping
      • Once all the campers have left the cabin and gone home, the staff member(s) who were in that cabin will choose between remaining in the cabin until camp is over or going home.
  • The camper or staff member who tested positive will be asked to identify any other close contacts outside of his or her cabin from within class groups, activity groups or staff members.
    • Close contacts include any individuals who were within 6 feet of the camper or staff member for more than 15 minutes during a 24 hour period.
      • In symptomatic individuals, this contact must have occurred within the 48 hour time frame prior to the symptoms having started.
      • In asymptomatic individuals, this contact must have occurred within the 48 hour time frame prior to the covid-19 test collection.
    • The parents of any identified camper will be contacted and asked to pick that individual up as soon as possible to begin quarantine at home.
      • Until the parents arrival, that individual will be quarantined at a location identified by the camp nurse and camp director.

They are all subject to change based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the status of the Covid-19 pandemic at the time of camp, recommendations from the CDC and/or other health experts, directives or other correspondence from the Texas Department of Health, and other factors deemed pertinent by the administrators of Hensel Christian Youth Camp and The Leadership Camp.
